Designs Beautiful “Green” Spaces

A commitment to green often comes from a place of deep conviction and personal belief. For Debi Bodinus, a 23 year veteran of the design industry and owner of D'Bodinus Eco-Luxury, the decision to design only green projects was an easy one. Her decision was based on her desire to create beautiful spaces that benefit the people who inhabit them as well as the planet we all inhabit. Using only environmentally friendly materials and with the mission of creating the healthiest spaces possible, Debi offers eco-friendly furniture and design services for high-end residential, commercial, hotel and restaurant clients. The greater mission, both in her designs and in her work with her clients, is to inspire all who seek her out to embrace a greener lifestyle.

Although Debi Bodinus is an award-winning green interior designer who is also a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, her mission to protect the environment is what she holds most important, and it comes from a place of deep understanding about the impact our environment can have on our lives and our health. Debi committed to going completely green ten years ago, after learning about the effects of chemicals and toxins in building materials and interior products, while simultaneously watching her brother lose his battle with lung cancer. She launched her company with the intention of only using and creating green products and materials, allowing her to design and create spaces for her clients that would not harm their health or the planet in the process.

Interior designers have access to a wide range of products, furniture and accessories, all created to reflect the personal taste and style of their clients. However, many of the products out there, from furniture that contains harmful chemicals to paints that are made with volatile organic compounds, are capable of creating severe health problems for the people who are exposed to them, including asthma, allergies and other diseases. The impact on the environment from these products can be negative, too, with interior spaces using half the materials and resources in the world, and emitting twice the carbon dioxide as all the cars on the road in our country, according to the U.S. Green Building Council.

Debi Bodinus has been combatting this black mark on the design industry by creating upholstered furniture, one of the industry's biggest environmental offenders, and other products that are made from non-toxic, chemical-free, eco-friendly materials. D'Bodinus upholstered furniture contains rubber latex foam, eco-wool, wood that is FSC Certified, water based glues, recycled steel springs and eco-friendly fabrics like cotton and bamboo. She also offers design services for clients who seek to create spaces that are beautiful, comfortable and healthy. The benefits of approaching design in this manner are many, including having a healthier home or space, reduced energy consumption, and less environmental impact.

Taking notice of Debi's work is the Building Industry Association, who awarded her with the Grand Award and the Carl Reppun Grand Award for her residential remodels using eco-friendly furniture and materials. In addition to her experience with designing furniture and spaces both residential and commercial, Debi has recently entered a new phase: designing furniture and products safe for babies with her new Eco babyLuv line. For those looking for a designer who understands both their need to be surrounded by functional beauty and their need for creating the healthiest space possible for both the inhabitants and the environment, look no further than D'Bodinus Eco-Luxury.
