As we learn more about the effects of what we put on and in our bodies, it’s only logical to seek out better, healthier, more Eco-friendly versions of the products that we use. However, this is not often an easy task. For one thing, the labeling and marketing of everyday products such as soap, hair products, deodorant, and other personal care items are at best confusing, and at worst deceptive. We want safe, healthy products that actually work as promised, and thanks to the natural and effective products made by EO Products, we can now have the best of both worlds: products that are good for us and good for the environment.
EO Products was founded in 1995 by Brad Black and Susan Griffin-Black. The Marin County, CA-based company uses essential oils to provide all of the more than 100 products they produce with amazing scents, natural coloring, and healthy therapeutic benefits. None of the bath, body and personal care products manufactured by EO Products in their certified organic facility contain additives, synthetics, or chemicals that can (and often do) cause allergies, skin reactions and environmental harm. Instead, the company often grows their own ingredients and are certified organic manufacturers, using oils that are steam distilled from flowers, bark, leaves and wood to create their formulations.
From the product formulas, to the production of the ingredients, to the packaging and labeling of the products, EO Products incorporates sustainable, responsible practices into everything they do. The ingredients are sourced responsibly or grown within their own facilities. All of the bottles come from recycled PET that is re-cast into the company’s distinctive blue bottles. Each label only contains the information for what is actually in the bottle, to make label-reading and understanding what you are actually purchasing much easier.
One thing that EO Products is very passionate about is being organic. However, customers may be surprised to find that the company does not label themselves as organic, and they have very important reasons for this decision. Even though their products, ingredients, and facilities are certified organic, EO Products believes that simply placing “organic” on a label doesn’t have any meaning unless it can follow consistent guidelines, which don’t really exist for personal care products. So the company made the ethical decision to only label a product as organic if it can adhere to the food grade organic standards, saving customers the confusion and frustration of vague label terms or hype marketing with little actual meaning.
EO Products manufactures liquid soaps, hand sanitizers, bath and body items, hair products, even children’s products, pet items, and essential oils. Each product features a detailed description of the benefits, ingredients, and what EO left out that other companies include in their personal care products. That means no sulfates, parabens, gluten, aluminum and zinc salts in their deodorants, or chemicals in their sanitizers. All of the products are formulated to work as well as (or better than) their heavily marketed counterparts, without all of the unhealthy additives.
For thousands of years, people have relied on natural, beneficial and healthy plants and natural materials to make effective medicines, soaps, and other beauty products. It’s only fairly recently that makers of beauty and health products started formulating with chemicals, and it’s only within the last several decades that people have become more aware at the cost of these chemicals and toxins to our health and our planet. Since 1995, EO Products has been making personal care products that are the way they should be: effective, natural and good for people and planet.
