Christie’s International is once again bringing its reputation and resources to help benefit four environmental organizations with this year’s Annual Green Auction, “Bid to Save the Earth 2012.” The Auction will be hosted by Christie’s at Rockefeller Center on April 11, 2012, helping bring environmental issues to the forefront in a big way just before Earth Day. With fabulous items and packages to bid on, a host of famous names on hand to help publicize the event, and with proceeds benefitting Oceana, Conservation International, Central Park Conservancy and National Resources Defense Council, this unique auction could prove to be one of the most exciting green events of the year.
Christie’s International has been known throughout the world for centuries as a premier seller of art and other historical treasures. Today, the famous auction house has 53 offices in 32 countries around the world with yearly sales totals approaching $3.2 billion. In 2010, Christie’s held the inaugural Green Auction, which raised over $2 million to benefit environmental causes. Each year the event has been a bigger success, with the total funds raised to date approaching $5 million. Christie’s has also stuck by their original non-profit partners, ensuring that these organizations can continue to work to improve environmental efforts both within New York and around the world. The focus of this year’s Green Auction will be water, for its importance to the entire Earth as a source of all life.
Each of the four non-profits to benefit from the Green Auction are united in a common goal: to protect and preserve the Earth’s natural resources. Here is a quick peek at each organization’s central mission:
· * Oceana campaigns for the world’s oceans through a partnership of marine scientists, advocates and other professionals who help bring about policy changes that protect sea life and reduce pollution.
· * The National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is an international organization dedicated to protecting people, places and resources throughout the world.
· * The Central Park Conservancy works to restore and enhance Central Park with the help of the public. Its work is carried out under contract through the New York City Department of Parks & Recreation.
· * Conservation International has been helping people across the globe care for the environment, support biodiversity and care for the world’s people for 25 years.
Another partner in the Green Auction since its inaugural year is Charitybuzz, a cause marketing firm that helps devise online auctions featuring unique and exciting experiences and merchandise to bid on. Past items available for bid through the Charitybuzz partnership at Christie’s Green Auction include bags by Fendi, the opportunity to meet Lady Gaga, a style consultation with Diane von Furstenburg, and exotic trips to locales such as Bali and Belize. The Charitybuzz companion portion of the Green Auction is conducted entirely online and is accessible to anyone worldwide. Items available for bidding in 2012 again feature some of the hottest people, places and things in the world of entertainment, fashion, art and travel, including a one week paid internship at DKNY, a trip to the Maldives, and a seat at Mercedez-Benz fashion week.
Christie’s 3rd Annual Green Auction kicks off on April 11 with an exclusive cocktail reception presented by Grey Goose Vodka. Attending celebrities, philanthropists and environmentalists will be treated to a performance by Grace Potter at the live auction. The event is co-chaired by Graydon and Anna Carter, James R. Hedges IV, Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek, and David and Susan Rockefeller, Jr., with support from JW Marriott and Fendi. Even through the auction itself is an invite-only event, there are still plenty of opportunities for anyone to participate through Charitybuzz. Their online companion auction runs from March 29-April 19 on their auction website, http://www.bidtosavetheearth.com and also through Facebook and Twitter.
