Pets easily find their way into our families and hearts. Of course, we only want the best care for our furry family members. Traditional veterinary care may not be a good match for everyone. Some may want a more natural approach to the care and health of their pet. HolVet, headed by Dr. Michele Yasson, may be the solution for those who do not feel that conventional veterinary care is the approach they want.
HolVet was established in 1987, making it one of the oldest and most well-established holistic veterinary practices in America. Dr. Yasson is considered a pioneer in the holistic veterinary field. She specializes in veterinary homeopathy, alternative medicine, natural supplements, and even acupuncture. Dr. Yasson is especially adept at treating chronic diseases (like cancer) with a holistic approach, using what she calls an “herbal chemotherapy agent” called Neoplasene.
HolVet is different from other veterinary practices because the goal is to cure your pet of their ailments, not just treat the symptoms. Many people are looking for this in a vet, as it is a rare goal in human physicians as well. Though HolVet and Dr. Yasson are based in New York, 95% of her work is done via telephone consultation, making her accessible to anyone in the country regardless of distance.
Dr. Yasson is an alumni of Rutgers University, and received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri. She is a founding member of the Academy of Veterinary Homeopathy, as well as a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society, and the National Center for Homeopathy.
Dr. Yasson had the privilege of being one of the early students of leading veterinary homeopath Dr. Richard Pitcairn, whose methods she studied and propagated. She continues to use and expound upon the early ideas of veterinary homeopathy today. She has been featured in numerous books, conferences, newspaper and magazine articles as well as radio and television programs.
Dr. Yasson has made a difference in the lives of animals suffering from cancer, diabetes, and many other chronic diseases, many of which are considered incurable. She has also been able to produce positive results with behavioral problems using her homeopathic methods.
The philosophy of Dr. Yasson, and of HolVet, is a simple one. It is better to cure disease and promote health in your dog or cat, rather than just treat or cover up symptoms with conventional medicine. Dr. Yasson focuses on three main categories to help her patients.
“Nutrition, avoidance of over vaccination, and cure rather than cover up.” Dr. Yasson goes onto explain via her website what other steps she takes to help your dog or cat, “My main modalities for treatment are education, homeopathy, species appropriate diet, nutraceuticals/natural supplements, acupuncture, herbal therapies, and Neoplasene for cancer cases. In addition, I rely on conventional diagnostics like laboratory tests, sonograms, radiographs, and MRIs when appropriate, and recommend conventional treatments as supportive care where indicated.”
It’s clear from this statement that Dr. Yasson does not shun all conventional veterinary care procedures merely on principle. She is willing to use the technological advances in veterinary medicine when necessary. Her overall outlook of “cure not cover up” makes the use of conventional veterinary medicine a compliment to her alternative therapies.
Dr. Yasson discourages the overuse of the standard immunizations typically given to dogs and cats under the idea that vaccines can last the lifetime of the dog or cat and do not need to be repeated unnecessarily.
While homeopathy has been around for a very long time, some people are hesitant to consider it a legitimate and safe form of treatment. However, Dr. Yasson uses only FDA approved homeopathic drugs, and she uses them as a means to get the body’s chemistry back in order, hopefully alleviating or curing the disease your pet is suffering from.
Dr. Yasson also believes in what she calls, “Bailing out the boat and fixing the bottom.” When treating cancer in a cat or dog, the herbal chemotherapy drug Neoplasene is the bailing out the boat part of the process. Homeopathy, species appropriate diet and supplementation are all part of fixing the hole in the boat so it doesn’t continue to sink. These things completely heal the problem when they are all working together.
If you’re looking for a veterinarian who knows everything there is to know about natural pet health and believes in fixing the problem instead of treating the symptoms, Dr. Yasson clearly has exactly what you need. Get a consultation and get your pet on the road to recovery.
